Jeff’s Additions to Barn Store

History of Barn Store

The Barn Store is a family-built, family-run business. The original store, called Mountain View Garage, was built by George Earl, who designed it to be a small gas station and welding shop. In 1938, this single-room building was purchased by Seigfreid and Cathleen Uibel. Seigfried and Cathleen later passed ownership onto their son, Ross Uibel, in 1974. Ross was the one to name this store Barn Store in 1975. During the 25 years of Ross’ ownership, the store was expanded to provide more products and services in addition to fuel and basic vehicle services. The added services included grocery items, sporting goods, lumber and insulation, tourist gift items, and the Caribou Clothes factory. The Caribou Clothes factory made sheepskin coats, gloves, slippers, and other products that were sold world-wide; today, they continue to make sheepskin gloves, hats, and slippers! More information about Caribou Clothes can be found on their website. Ross further expanded Barn Store to include a restaurant in the late 1980s, and motel rooms in the 1990s. In 1991, Brent Hodgkinson took over ownership of Barn Store, with Ross Uibel continuing ownership of the Caribou Clothes factory located in Barn Store. In 1999, Mr. Sopel purchased Barn Store and renamed it Mountain View Market; he also named the motel rooms Mountain View Motel. In 2003, Nolan Romeril purchased Mountain View Market and Motel. Finally, in 2011, Jeff Uibel purchased Mountain View Market and Motel, renaming them Barn Store and Bear Country Inn & Suites.
